Red Ants

I believe the ants in these pictures are called Red Harvester Ants.  We have a lot of them around here.  The ant bed in these pictures is 30 inches across — about 95 inches around.  From what I’ve seen on our property, that’s pretty normal for these ants.

These pictures aren’t as clear as I’d like them to be, but I thought I’d go ahead and share them anyway.

  1. Wow… That’s crazy! I don’t know how you feel about bugs, but I would be getting out the bug spray for sure. We had an ant problem right next to one of the corners of our house a couple years ago and they started to get in. You can be sure that I took care of that problem! Lol

    1. Oh, these ants don’t bother me any. We have at least 6-8 of these ant beds (that I know of) on our 7-1/2 acres, but I’m sure there are more. Only couple people have gotten bit/stung (whatever!), but that was because they were sitting or standing right on the ant bed. To get pics, I just stand right outside of the ant bed & kinda lean over it and they don’t bother me at all.
As far as getting rid of them… My parents don’t like to use poisons, but my mom has mentioned using some natural stuff. We aren’t in a huge hurry, though. These ants don’t get in our house.
