New York Harbor – Ship – Custums – Taxi

This is part of a letter from my great-great-aunt in which she tells (among other things) about her experiences immigrating to the United States from Germany in 1926.  I am so glad that my family has these little treasures from our ancestors!  🙂

  1. That is so cool! What a treasure that must be to have. 🙂 I’m a huge ancestry lover, so I love looking at old letters and things from my grandparents and other ancestors.

    1. I love learning about my ancestors too, so things like this letter immediately catch my attention. I’m pretty sure my mom has some of the documents that her German ancestors brought over with them when they immigrated… I’m hoping to get my hands on some of those soon & get some pictures. 🙂

  2. Those sound super interesting! I’d love to see pics if you ever get to look at them. Many of my ancestors were from Germany also. 🙂 Sadly we don’t have a whole lot of original documents from them, that I know of. I have found little treasures here and there, though, which is always exciting. 😉

    1. I’ll definitely be posting pics if/when I get to take some. Hopefully sooner rather than later… 😉
Really? That’s neat! I am 1/4 German — my grandpa’s parents were immigrants.

      1. Okay, sounds good!

Cool! I’m not sure the exact amount, but I think I am around 1/8-1/4 German. It’s definitely the largest group in my ethnical make-up. 😉 I have it on both parents’ sides…at least 1/8 from my mom, and a lot more, tho more distant, from my dad. Really fun to research!

        1. Oh, that’s cool! I always love hearing about people’s nationalities… there’s such an ethnic mix here in the U.S.

Okay, this may sound funny, but are you “Heather S” from Goodreads?

          1. Same here. 🙂

Yes, I am! I’m sorry, I thought you already knew that. 🙂 I can see how it might have looked strange for some random person to suddenly start commenting all over your blog. 😉 I’ve been following it for quite a while now.

            1. Well, with it just saying Heather, I wasn’t sure — could be anyone, you know. 😉 But I looked at the other comments you had made on my blog & saw one that said “Heather (from Goodreads)” so I figured it was you.
lol! Wouldn’t be the first time. 😉 Sometimes I think people who comment on my blog think I’m strange if I strike up a conversation with them. lol!
Well, thanks for following & for the comments too! I do love getting them! 🙂
