Into The Cemetery – pt. 2

Below are a few headstones that caught my eye and I just couldn’t resist taking a photo!

This one is the grave of a veteran of the American Civil War– a Confederate Soldier.
He was born March 17, 1839 and died November 19, 1907.

This tombstone caught my eye because it’s shaped like a cradle.
It is the grave of little Albert Harris who was born in July 1900 and died in September 1901.

I didn’t get to see this one up close so I don’t know whose grave it is or how old.
I just happened to notice it as we were about to leave.  I thought the statue looked unique and interesting so I leaned out the window to snap a picture– mostly so I could look it up when I got home to see if I could discover the meaning behind it.

This is the only clue I have been able to find as to the meaning:
Woman hanging onto Cross – Faith. Original drawing accompanied Rev. Toplady’s hymn “Rock of Ages.”
Also seen as woman clinging to pillar or anchor.

  1. I’ve been waiting for this post!! ;D
I love these! It’s just the right amount of wonder, intrigue, and dark photography. It’s like a small look into someone’s life, now passed. Really terrific photos, my friend!

  2. These are really neat, JJ 😉 Cemeteries have an amount of mystery and sadness to them. Whenever I visit my grandma in Canada, my cousins and I always walk down a block or so to the town cemetery and walk around looking at the tombstones. One of my favorites is shaped like a old tree trunk and is very beautiful.

    1. Thank you , Karis! 🙂 I totally agree. And the old cemeteries are especially interesting. Oh, I’ve seen a lot of the tree trunk shaped ones.
You should take some pictures the next time you go. 😉
